La Fonda arm chairs

General info

Originally designed by the Eames Office as a special commission for Alexander Girard’s New York City restaurant, La Fonda Del Sol.  Girard requested chairs with backs that would not protrude above table tops.  The Eames Office re-sculpted the original fiberglass arm chair, lowering its back and raising its arms into this new form.

The chairs we sell

This is a set of 4 original La Fonda armchairs, designed by Charles Eames in the 1960s for Herman Miller. The backrest is lower then the normal arm shells, the arm rests are differently formed. Special edition in order of the restaurant La Fonda, much more rare then the usual arm chairs on La Fonda Base.

The hopsack fits closely to the foam and is not blistering. There are a couple of small stains and the colour of the chairs has faded a bit. The racks around the feet have partly enamel chips.  Marked with a 'Vitra' label and a 'V'.
